The Issues
Energy
Colorado is in the fortunate position of being able to play a significant role in America's energy future. Unfortunately, the current administration and its allies in the state legislature have squandered this opportunity. An exclusive focus on expensive and heavily-subsidized alternature fuels, likely decades away from maturity, had led the state away from cheaper energy sources already here in the state.
Colorado has vast energy resources here in the state which can help lower the cost of energy both for transportation and for electrical power generation, both of which are rapidly reaching critical levels of demand both domestically and worldwide.
While market forces will encourage conservation, we should encourage:
- The development of natural gas, with proper environmental protections, especially now that a major pipeline will provide access to more expensive markets.
- The development of coal, a cheap and now-clean source for electrical plants and coal gasification.
- The location of nuclear plants here in our fantastically stable geological environment.
- The experimental exploitation of shale oil, economically attractive at today's oil prices.
